Annual Global Biotech Week Celebrates Biotech Industry

Once again, Saskatchewan's strong biotechnology industry was showcased during Global Biotech Week, recognized September 23-29. The province's Biotech Week organizing committee, led by Innovation Place tenant Ag-West Bio, coordinated a strong slate of industry and outreach activities in Saskatoon and Regina.

The Taste of Innovation kick-off event in Saskatoon, co-hosted by Ag-West Bio and Innovation Place, featured Saskatchewan food innovations and a presentation by Dr. Wilf Keller, Ag-West Bio CEO. Following the event, Innovation Place offered tours of three bioscience companies in the technology park, including Contango Strategies, Nutrien and Co.Labs, Saskatchewan's first technology incubator (see photos below).

Innovation Place also hosted an engaging Science Communication luncheon with guest speaker Michael Robin. Later in the week, the Saskatoon park was home to the Amazing Biotech Race, featuring bioscience students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic and local high schools. The week concluded with Biotech & Beer, a casual networking event that took place in the Concourse building.

Other Saskatoon and Regina activities included presentations by CropLife Canada and the U of S College of Agriculture and Bioresources, a trivia night hosted by Innovation Place tenant Genome Prairie, science cafes and Canadian Light Source tours.

Innovation Place is pleased to support Global Biotech Week and showcase the biotechnology industry, within and outside the province. Innovation Place is home to several bioscience companies, all of whom contribute to the strong agri-tech cluster in the technology park. These tenants have access to specialized facilities, technical capacities and collaborative opportunities that help contribute to productivity and growth.
