Innovation Saskatchewan is responsible for implementing the province’s innovation priorities and helping grow Saskatchewan’s tech sector. Effective April 2022, this includes operation of the Innovation Place technology parks in Saskatoon and Regina.
On July 9, Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International presented The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards via webcast. This prestigious program in the commercial real estate industry recognizes quality in commercial buildings and rewards excellence in building management.
2 Research Drive at Innovation Place in Regina was a contender for the BOMA International Earth Award in the Office category, after winning the BOMA Regina Earth Award and BOMA Canada Earth Award -- a first for a Saskatchewan building. All three awards acknowledge excellence in resource preservation and environmentally sound commercial building management.
While 2 Research Drive did not receive the international award, the building was among four finalists around the world recognized for its superior environmental stewardship. Comprehensive award criteria included environmental risk reduction, indoor air quality and green cleaning, recycling, energy and water conservation, interior finish, green purchasing policy, and occupant communications and education.

Innovation Place is proud of its long history of promoting environmental sustainability in all aspects of its business and grateful for the recognition we have received. Innovation Place buildings received BOMA Regina Earth Awards an impressive three years in a row, with 2 Research Drive receiving it in 2019 and the Terrace receiving it in 2018 and 2020. 2 Research Drive has also achieved a Platinum rating, the highest BOMA BEST certification level, and is currently the top-rated building in Saskatchewan.
All multi-tenant buildings at Innovation Place have achieved BOMA BEST certification, with Saskatoon and Regina buildings currently certified Silver, Gold and Platinum and we are home to two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified buildings, including 2 Research Drive in Regina and 121 Research Drive in Saskatoon. The certification is an internationally accepted benchmark for high performance green buildings.
