Innovation Saskatchewan is responsible for implementing the province’s innovation priorities and helping grow Saskatchewan’s tech sector. Effective April 2022, this includes operation of the Innovation Place technology parks in Saskatoon and Regina.
Van Isman, President and CEO of Saskatchewan Opportunities Corporation (SOCO), has announced his retirement effective October 9, 2020.
Following Isman’s departure, Brent Sukenik will serve as Acting President and CEO. Sukenik’s appointment was announced August 28 by the SOCO Board of Directors.
“On behalf of the SOCO Board, I wish to thank Van for his 28 years of public service, notably the last seven years at Innovation Place. The ongoing success of the corporation is due in large part to his steady leadership. I also extend sincere congratulations to Brent and look forward to working together in the future,” SOCO Board Chair Victor Thomas said.
Isman stated “I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to spend the capstone of my career at Innovation Place – this unique organization does extraordinary work in supporting the development of Saskatchewan’s tech sector. I am thrilled Brent is assuming this role and continuing to advance the strategic direction of the corporation.”
Sukenik joined Innovation Place in 2002 and assumed the role of Corporate Comptroller. In 2014 he was appointed to the Chief Financial Officer position.
“I feel both honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to lead this world-class organization and am excited to further SOCO’s efforts in helping grow Saskatchewan’s tech sector,” Sukenik said.
SOCO is a Crown corporation that operates under the business name Innovation Place. The technology parks, located adjacent to the province’s two universities in Saskatoon and Regina, are home to 150 tenants employing over 3,700 people.
